Having a website is the number one way to market your business online and get more customers to discover you and what you have to offer them. There’s no longer a valid excuse to not have a website in this day and age (businesses that go without a site do still exist, but they’re rare).
Do you know what you need to do with your website now, though? Redesign it. Why? Because if your sales are not as strong as you hoped they would be or your message just isn’t getting out, your website may be why it’s not doing what you want it to do in the first place, whether it’s helping you earn sales or increasing your company’s brand awareness online. Here are a few other valid reasons why a website redesign may be just what your business needs right now.
Your Site is Over 10 Years Old
Here’s the thing: 10 years in Internet time = ancient history. 10 years ago, Adobe Flash was the main resource for animators, people still used Angelfire to host their websites, and the hit social media platform of choice was MySpace. If reading this makes you feel old, imagine how your customers must feel if they try to use your 10-year-old-and-up website and it does any of the following:
- Takes forever and a day to load after clicking
- Slows down because of an animation or video in the home page slider
- The font of your site’s text and content is the dreaded Comic Sans (this is good for a casual tone, but NOT if you want to come across as professional!)
- Flash animations are still present (which, according to the news, is going to become completely obsolete in 2020)
There are many other 10-year-old differences we could list, but we want to give it to you straight: not everything that’s from the past is timeless. Some things about it, like websites, are more outdated. If any of the aforementioned list sounds like what’s on your website, get help to redesign it pronto!
You’re Not Seeing the Results You Want
What do you really want to get out of your website? The answer can be a few things, such as building your customer base, increasing sales, or generating new leads—or all of these. If your website is picture-perfect but you’re still not seeing the desired results, the only thing your website is doing is being a beautified waste of digital space.
Take a look at your current conversion rates on your site—these can give you an idea of what needs to be adjusted. You should ask yourself the following when looking at these rates:
- Does the call to action make me want to convert to a sale?
- Are my landing pages useful to visitors, or do they just look pretty without offering a lot?
- Is this too text-heavy or full of jargon?
- Is this site speaking directly to my target audience, and does it look and feel like it matches my company’s voice and message?
If there are a lot of ‘no’s in the last section, it’s time to redesign.
You Haven’t Added SEO—Not Now, and Not Ever
Search engine optimization (SEO) is a process that informs search engines like Google that your website is a trustworthy resource as well as a credible one. While it is incredibly difficult to keep up with Google’s lightning speed pace of changes in their algorithm, it’s not impossible if you think ahead properly.
For example, we build our websites from scratch with simple and streamlined design as well as apply title and meta description tags containing keywords conducted from research. This is a fraction of the white hat SEO practices we provide our clients with (you can check out more about these practices here). It’s the kind of SEO that works to help your company look great and attract customers, all while adhering to Google’s rules no matter how many times they change them.
If you haven’t added SEO to your site, however, not now and not ever, and are scratching your head about this, then we need to tell you something: add SEO and redesign your website so that it follows Google’s rules. It’s one valid reason why you’re not seeing the desired results you want from your site.
You Haven’t Optimized It for Mobile
It’s 2018. There is no longer an excuse to not have a website that is responsive and optimized for mobile devices such as smartphones. Mobile devices are where your customer base are going to when they need to look for information or make a purchase. They’re also more convenient devices to use when they’re nowhere near their laptop or desktop computers.
There are several other reasons to optimize a website for mobile which we go over in one of our recent blog posts. If your website still only seems responsive on a single device, it’s time to catch up with the rest of the world and redesign it.
Your Business is Also Over 10 Years Old
As old as our business is (we’ve been around for over 25 years!), we understand that the world changes too. Our business is not the same as it was 10 years ago; neither is our website. If your website doesn’t reflect all of these new changes your business has clearly undergone, it will show to your customers that you don’t care about that, and thus you don’t care about them and their needs from a website either.
The other thing to watch out for in this regard are your competitors. If you’ve visited their website recently, chances are you’ve noticed they’re applied redesigns to their site as well. Don’t get left behind in the dust when it comes to standing out above your competition! The best way to get ahead of the game is by redesigning your website and catching up with modern times.
There’s no better time to redesign a website like the present, but there may be coding on your site currently that’s also not up to date. Why not get a brand new site built from the ground-up that you can be proud of? If this sounds like the kind of website you want, give our professionals at V3 Media a call and we can get started! You can also go over what you want from your new website through a one-on-one consultation. It never hurts to ask!
