As of 2017, there are approximately over 317 million monthly active users on Twitter and the numbers keep on growing. It’s one of the most well-known social media networks next to Facebook, so to not be engaged or frequently using Twitter would mean missing out on potential engagement and sales conversion.

Just like any social media platform though, you have to understand how it works in order to use it to its full potential. It can feel disheartening to see all the users you could be engaging with choosing instead to follow one of your competitors, but there are ways to gain that much-needed interest without screaming into the void. If standing out among the other millions of users is what you really need to see happening, then here are some tips to do just that on Twitter.

1: Your Voice

Your voice is and should be unique compared to others on Twitter; that goes for any social network you want or need to be active on. In order to achieve this, your voice needs to be the following:

Concise – remember, tweets made on Twitter are limited to 140 characters which includes punctuation, spaces, and even URLs.

Meaningful – it’s one thing to tweet out something off the top of your head, but it’s another to tweet something meaningful – a favourite quote of yours, perhaps, or a promotion that engages people rather than just blasts noise at them.

Yours – blending in to sound like one of your competitors is exactly what not to do while on Twitter. If you have something to say, say it – you never know who needs to read your tweet. Everything may have been said already, but it hasn’t been said by you.

Your voice will also lend a good hand to the following you need for successful notice on Twitter:

2: Your Brand

It’s amazing how many people get lost while using social media especially when it comes to their brand. The brand you represent should be reflected across all social media platforms no matter what. That means you need to be consistent with what you’re promoting and how you promote it. For example, if your brand differs from Johnny down the road because of your excellent customer service, you need to ensure that that quality of excellence is obviously shown online too, not just in person. It’s for that reason people still turn to Twitter to reach out to businesses given how mobile-friendly it is.

In relation to the brand, be sure to try and have the following while tweeting:

3: Your Creative Side

Nothing draws attention from others than to show off your creative side. If you have a knack for graphic design or photography, let that shine through with every new visual you have to offer to your followers. If you have perspective on a topic or subject that hasn’t been provided by anyone else, share that with your followers. Try and look at the headlines in a different way compared to how others are doing it; it will help make your tweets stand out more and also demonstrate that you are indeed engaged with the content being presented on Twitter.

4: Your Adherence to the Phrase “Sharing is Caring”

It’s a natural cause and effect: by noticing and sharing others’ tweets via retweeting, they’ll start to notice you too and do likewise. That being said, you need to ensure you’re not just retweeting for the sake of just retweeting; really take a look at the content being shared and if it’s meaningful (remember our first point!), it might be a good idea to add your own comment or thought on the subject. Be one of the natural leaders by sharing these thoughts and making your own special contribution. Which brings us to our next tip:

5:  Your Niche

Rather than spreading yourself thin when it comes to promoting and tweeting content, concentrate only on the stuff that is intertwined tightly with your service or product’s main focus. Doing so will help you become more established as an expert in your field. If someone were to learn about who you are and what you bring to the table for their first time, it will make a big difference since you’ve already provided them with your knowledge beforehand.

Like any social media account, Twitter can boost your social media marketing campaign in a big way – so long as it’s used responsibly and it doesn’t damage your online reputation. When used right, Twitter can be a positive means of engaging with younger people as well as your target audience, and it can be a fun challenge condensing your thoughts into just a few characters.
